Classes

If you are interested in beginning knitting, we schedule private lessons during the week as well as Saturday mornings before the shop opens.  The cost is $30 for one hour of instruction; we encourage groups and offer hourly group rates as well.  In one hour of beginning knitting, one can learn how to cast on, knit and purl!

Stitch Sampler Cowl Class

Natalie had a great time knitting this stitch sampler cowl, and thought knitters of a variety of skill levels would enjoy it too!   This class is suitable for an adventurous beginner through advanced intermediate.  Natalie used just one skein each of a chunky yarn, and had plenty left over.  Be sure to have your pattern printed off before class.
This class will meet on Saturday, November 2nd from 9:00-11:00 for $20.00.

Basic Socks With Donna

Join Donna in this three- part class on how to make the basic sock.  You will learn how to use DPN needles, turn a heel, and the kitchner stitch!  This class will meet on Saturdays, October 26th and November 23rd from 10:00-11:00 AM AND November 9th from 9:30-11:00 A.M. for $45.00.  There is no homework for this class other than having all of your supplies ready.

Slip Stitch Cowl Class with Jennifer

This cowl starts at a corner so you can learn the slip-stitch technique in no time!  Stop in and see our sample knit with three different colors of Pashmina!  Another nice thing about starting with just a few stitches is that if you if you don't like your colors,  you aren't tearing out too much work!  This class is suitable for an advanced beginner.

The class will meet on Saturday, October 26th from 11:30-1:00 for $15.00, and there is no homework.

Cable and Bobble Cowl Class

We have so many new and wonderful Aran weight yarns in the shop that Natalie just had to knit this cozy cowl with one of them.   Natalie is loving projects that start with under 10 stitches since you can learn much in a short amount of time; or if your gauge is off, or you need to start over, you need to just cast on a few stitches.  This is an advanced class since there are many different techniques, but more importantly, lots of different instructions are all happening at once.  If you want to work on reading your knitting  or have a refresher on reading cable charts, then this is the class for you.  Natalie will share with you all her tricks for keeping her knitting organized without using row counters or ticking off rows.   This class will meet on Saturday, November 16th from 9:00-11:00 A.M. for $20.00.  Just be sure to have your pattern printed off, and materials gathered before class.  You will need cable needles and highlighter tape, in addition to yarn and knitting needles.

Advanced Fair Isle and Intarsia Class

Natalie has never knit from a Kaffe Fassett pattern;  now that he has his own line of colors in the beloved Rowan Felted tweed, Natalie had to knit this!  This is an advanced colorwork class since the motifs are not traditional, and often three colors are used per row.  Natalie is taking careful notes on where to add floats, which colors to hold in what hand, and other tips for having a fun knitting experience.  You need to have your garter stitch done before the first class if you wish to do this as a scarf in the round (CO just 13; if partial motifs will annoy you, please add 8 stitches so your flowers will end correctly, but then other motifs may be slightly off). If you are knitting a cowl, have your 130 stitch provisional CO completed before class begins.   This class will meet on Wednesdays, October 30th, November 13th, and 27th from 10:00-11:00 AM for $30.00.  If you wish to purchase the kit, see details here.

Song of the Sea Lace Cowl Class

Join Jennifer for this lace class where you will learn chart reading!  We have a sample in the store, but we chose to knit ours as a cowl.  You need to have you project cast on and rib completed if applicable.  This class will meet on Saturday, November  9th from 12:00-2:00 p.m. for $20.00.  This class is suitable for intermediate knitters.

The fine print:
Materials are not included in class fees unless specified.  Class fees are non- refundable unless we cancel the class.  We reserve the right to cancel a class if there are fewer than three knitters enrolled one week before the class.  We strongly encourage you to purchase supplies from our store since not all yarns are created equally.   Many classes are outside of regular business hours, so please be on time.  If a class is on the weekend, you may park across the parking lot at APEX.
All of the classes listed here are for knitters who are very comfortable with the basics of knitting (CO,BO,K,P, SM,RM, k2tog,ssk etc...).  If you need a refresher, or want to learn to knit, we offer those classes as private lessons scheduled during regular business hours.   Each lesson is $30 per hour, and for 100% beginners, we encourage you to take two, one hour classes.

Our favorite beginner knitter project!

Beginning knitting private lessons
We recommend this two, one hour class for 100% beginners, or for people who haven't knit in many years.  Our expert staff will get your new hobby  started by knitting a pair of finger-less mittens.  In the beginner classes we cover casting on, knitting, purling, binding off, and seaming.  If for whatever reason you get stuck on one of these new  techniques, we will modify the lesson to better suit you.  We love this beginner project because it covers all three basic knitted fabrics: garter, stockinette, and ribbing.  Each one hour private lessons is $30.  If a friend will be joining you, it is $30 per person, per hour. Not included in the lesson cost is the pattern, circular needle, and a skein of Rhichard Devrieze hand dyed yarn.  It is not required that you purchase the materials from us, but our supplies are not like anything you will find at a craft store.  Our supplies make it easier to learn to knit, and cost around an additional $35.  This class can be scheduled during our regular business hours, and select Saturdays at 10 A.M.

Our classes are held outside of regular shop hours so please be on time, since we lock the doors as soon as the class begins.

Please be conscientious when parking for a class.  Our lot can accommodate 12 cars if everyone parks in an organized manner.  However, you may also park at Apex across the alley for Saturday classes ONLY.

The fine print:    We reserve the right to cancel a class if we do not have at least three students one week in advance.  You must pay to reserve your spot in the class and we appreciate it if you purchase your supplies from us.  We will only refund your class fee if we cancel the class.
