"Rain is a mercerized cotton elevated by lustrous sheen. Its elongated chain construction retains shape and drapes with fluidity"

This was a yarn we were hesitant to order, because at first glance, the pictures of this yarn made it look dull and clunky.  I ended up special ordering it for a customer to make Spectrum for her daughter's wedding.  When it arrived, I was so shocked at how smooth and silky the yarn was.  It does not look or feel like our other cotton yarns, because it is mercerized.  Mercerization is a process that has been around for a long time (invented by Mr. Mercer in the mid 19th century), which makes the yarn shiny, smooth, and strong by treating the cotton with a caustic alkali.  The yarn is also able to absorb more dye, making the colors rich bold and vibrant.

Bottom line, we all love this yarn and are really happy to add it to our collection of Shibui yarns, and we want to start knitting with it!  To see the featured pattern collection using Rain, click here.

Each skein is 100% cotton, has 135 yards per 50 grams and is considered a dk weight.  The recommended gauge is 22 sts over 4" on a US 6 needle.  The beauty with Shibui is you are able to mix the yarns to create heavier gauge yarns!  If you wanted this to be a light worsted, simply knit with Twig, and the fingering weight Shibui Linen at the same time!  If you wanted a summer-weight heavy worsted, knit Rain held with Shibui Twig!  Or, if you are not a fan of 100% plant fiber knits, you could simply knit Rain with Cima, Pebble, or any of the other Shibui yarns!
